One of the commonest gastro intestinal disorders is flatulence and bloating of the stomach. There are two causes of flatulence in the body. One is when you swallow too much air while chewing and another is when your intestines are affected by bacteria.
These bacteria cause the production of gas by attacking the undigested food in the small intestines. The gases produced in the small intestines are hydrogen and sometimes methane. The bacteria usually attack the undigested sugars and starchy foods.
When this accumulated gas is not passed from the body, there is a feeling of being bloated. The stomach feels full and one can even experience cramps. If you have a sedentary job or a stressful lifestyle, the production of gas in the intestines increases even more.
Passing gas or experiencing bloating is not a serious health condition and is quite common. However, it is socially very embarrassing and cause social discomfort. If you have been experiencing flatulence and bloating, add a pinch of asafetida to your food. If the flatulence is really bad, try taking a pinch of asafetida with a glass of lukewarm water. Asafetida helps in reducing the gas accumulation. Mint leaves are also known for reducing bloating and flatulence. Apart from cleansing the mouth and the alimentary canal, it can also relieve you of the pressure in your stomach and the feeling of fullness. To improve your digestion, take a cup of chamomile tea everyday. It helps in the digestion of food and also relieves the intestines of any gases that might be trapped there.
You can also soak some slices or shreds of ginger in lemon juice and then chew them. You can also make a preservative out of this and then refrigerate it. This can help you get rid of the bloated feeling and is also helpful in releasing gas pressure. Sometimes flatulence could also be caused by lactose intolerance. If you are consuming dairy products and you have lactose intolerance, it could increase flatulence.
When you have gas for a long time, it’s a good idea to give your digestive system a break. Instead of refined food, eat more of raw vegetables, salads and whole grains. These have huge amounts of roughage and aid in the processing and digesting of the food. Taking a lot of fluids and water also helps in flushing toxins and easing the digestion process. Don’t eat very spicy or ethnic food. Potatoes, cabbage, rice, beans, peas and broccoli are some foods that increase flatulence. Lay off of them for some time.

Take up to four charcoal capsules to relieve gas and bloating. Take capsules before a meal if you are going to eat something you know will cause gas and bloating.
Lay down on your left side. It gets the gas moving.
Drink pepperment tea with meals or soon after.
