Natural Cure for Leg Ulcer

Leg ulcers can be cause by quite a few reasons, but the most common reasons for ulceration in the leg are cellulitis, ulceration of the veins, and deep vein thrombosis. In two of these conditions, the veins are the offending party to cause ulceration. Susceptible groups of people to ulcerations in the leg include people on immunosuppressant drugs and corticosteroids, diabetics, the elderly, and people leading a sedentary life. With specific regard to cellulitis, the frequent puncturing of skin and bad hygiene are also causative factors. Treating an ulceration of the leg depends on its causative factor. Cellulitis is curable with the use of antibiotics and the removal of necrotized or dead tissues. Deep vein thrombosis is a little more difficult to cure and requires time and the action of anti-coagulating drugs for the blood. Venous ulcerations are unfortunately very difficult to treat and require technique like compression and elevation to relieve symptoms.

Venous ulcers cause an ulceration of the leg due to a pooling of blood. This occurs due to difference in the pressures in the arteries and veins while circulating in the leg. Naturally, there is a pressure gradient with the arteries having a higher pressure than the veins, which, just like a hydraulic pump, cause the volume of blood in the veins to be pushed back up the body. People who suffer from a condition of venous hypertension experience problems because of the lack of arterial pressure pushing the blood. This then causes the blood to pool and spill in to the surrounding tissue. Further, this causes the compounds in the blood to cause inflammation, the build up of fibrous tissue that chokes the surrounding tissue of nutrients, and the white blood cells to accumulate and cause hypoxia to surrounding tissues. Treating venous ulcers requires that patients keep their venous pressures lower than arterial pressure. Raising the legs above the level of the heart and compression using braces are the usual therapy used. Cellulitis is a condition in which the bacteria on the skin surface get inside the skin through a puncture or because of a compromised immune system.

Treating leg ulcer at home requires regulation of venous pressure and supporting the medical treatment regimen. In the case of cellulitis, keeping the skin disinfected by tea tree oil washes and increasing garlic intake should be adequate. For venous ulcers, one must first drain the fluid in the legs by regular massages, elevation therapy when lying down, and exercise. Feverfew and ginger intake is useful to regulate blood pressure. Diabetics should have lectin supplements derived from bitter melon.
