Burning Sensation In Eyes
Often you experience a sharp burning sensation in your eyes for seemingly no reason. It may also be accompanied by extremely watery eyes and your eye may display sensitivity to light. At other times your eye could stay dry and that in itself might be the cause for the burning sensation, since the eye is not being lubricated enough. There are various causes for a burning sensation in the eye. It can be due to causes as simple as excessive exposure to rays emanating from a television screen or a computer monitor or lack of sleep to more complex ones like conjunctivitis (pink eye) or an eye sty. At times it could also be due to an inflammation of the eyelids producing a condition known as ‘blepharitis’. Hence, if you experience a lasting burning sensation in your eyes, it is ideal to visit an ophthalmologist in order to rule out serious infections. Once it is ascertained that there are no grave dangers, a burning sensation in the eye can quite easily be treated from the comfort of your living room. The following are some excellent home remedies that one could stick to.
Water always helps. So, as a first step, splash cold water over your eyes with the eyelids closed. For best results, use rose water. It soothes the burning membranes in your eyes thus bringing immediate relief. The next thing to do would be to get hold of Aloe Vera. The benefits of Aloe Vera juice to the human eye can only be understated. One can put a few drops of Aloe Vera juice directly into the eye to administer this remedy. Alternately, you can also use it as eyewash or soak a piece of soft cloth in it and gently dab the eyelids. Each of these treatments is extremely beneficial in healing the burning sensation. A warm compress over the eyelids using chamomile or lavender oil is also a recommended remedy.
Massage your eyelids in the morning after heating them a bit by standing in a hot shower. This promotes circulation in the eyelids, thus reducing the inflammation. Additionally, drink a lot of carrot juice. Carrot is rich in beta carotene which is highly beneficial to your eyes. A glass or two of carrot juice each day will help you fight any eye infection better. Cooled elderberry blossom tea used as eyewash acts as an excellent soothing agent for infected eyes. Honey mixed in water is another excellent eyewash for burning eyes.
