Natural Ways to Detox
It is a great idea to detox your body through natural ways. But what is detox in the first place and what does it actually do to your body? Detoxification of the body is about cleansing the body by removing toxins and then nourishing your body with nutrients. This is a great way to rejuvenate and protect yourself from a number of diseases. With all the pollutants and toxins all around us, and the kind of fast-paced, stressed lifestyles that we have, detoxifying through natural ways is a must, once every year. The organs are given a chance to rest, as fasting is an important aspect of detoxification; ; toxins are flushed out by stimulating the liver; and, the circulation of the blood is improved.
- You can begin detoxification by eliminating coffee, refined sugars, all purpose flour, alcohol, cigarettes and saturated fats from your diet. You should also avoid all wheat products, milk and dairy products; meat, chicken and eggs; deep-fried foods; spices and hydrogenated fats; and, toxins like tobacco and alcohol, artificial sweeteners, food additives and preservatives. You may also want to start using natural and herbal health care products instead of using products with high chemical content.
- The next step should be to concentrate on reducing stress, since stress creates harmful toxins in the body. You can do this by positive thinking, yoga and meditation. Once you’ve created an environment conducive for detox, you can begin by fasting for 24 hours.
- After the fast, eat raw fruits and vegetables or fresh homemade juices. Fresh veggies and fruits are good for the body, easily digestible, provide required nutrition and finally, cleanse the body of all its toxins. So, continue your veggie-fruit diet for a week after the fast. Increase consumption of fruits and vegetables – apples, oranges, carrots, beetroot, kiwi fruit, tomatoes, cabbage, radishes and broccoli are recommended. All of these are rich in vitamins and minerals and happen to be good antioxidants. You can also include foods rich in fiber, like brown rice, bran and oats.
- Also remember to drink lots of water and remain well-hydrated through your detox session. Water flushes out toxins and keeps the body and skin healthy and supple. You may want to begin each day with a glass of warm water, some lime extract and a teaspoon of honey – this is said to help detoxify your liver and kidneys. You can take herbs like burdock and dandelion root to help cleanse the liver. Green tea is another great beverage for detoxification.
- Another thing that is very important for detoxification through natural ways is regular exercise. Yoga, skipping, brisk walks and aerobics are some exercise routines that can help improve your breathing and other bodily functions, whilst flushing out toxins through perspiration.
