Home Remedies for Instant Glow
The face is a very important facet to all human communication. When we face a person while talking, our brain observes each and every minute change that comes over the listener’s face, letting us judge how they are reacting. In fact, psychologists have shown that most of us unconsciously visualize the person we are talking to on the phone! The face also acts as a ‘visiting card’ and people often make important judgments about us just by looking at our face for a few seconds. Finally, a smooth, glowing face also sends out signals about our overall health and wellness.
There are several challenges facing anyone in the quest for a glowing, healthy complexion. The first is sebum, which is an oil-like natural moisturizer that is secreted by the sebaceous glands in the skin. It is actually useful to keep the skin healthy and moisturized, but an excess acts as a magnet for all kinds of dirt and grime. This gives the skin a shiny, dark appearance. To avoid this, a mild, hypoallergenic cleanser should be used at least twice a day, in the morning and evening. This helps to get rid of all the pollutants and grime that has accumulated throughout the day. A cleaner with salicylic acid is recommended, since it has excellent exfoliating properties that can get rid of all the dead skin cells, grime, and excess sebum. A weekly face pack can also help to deep cleanse the facial pores, relax the skin, and rejuvenate the complexion. A simple pack can be created by mashing together some cooling cucumber slices and keeping it on for ten minutes before rinsing. In fact, washing the face with cold water several times a day keeps it clean and helps to tighten the facial skin.

Sunlight is another hurdle in the path to glowing skin. Melanin, the skin pigment that gives us skin color, acts to protect the skin from the harmful effects of ultraviolet radiation in sunlight. Unfortunately, this also causes the melanin to turn darker, leading to a ‘tan’ on the exposed skin. To avoid this, always wear some form of sun protection and use a sunscreen product with an SPF rating of at least 15. Finally, the only way to find and maintain an inner glow is to drink plenty of healthy fluids, eat right, and exercise regularly. Alcohol and smoking should be avoided, since they cause premature ageing of the skin.
