Hypertension Home Remedies

What is Hypertension? Hypertension is a medical condition in which the blood pressure is chronically elevated. It is also known as high blood pressure. Hypertension can be classified as primary or secondary. Primary hypertension has no specific medical cause and is the most common type of hypertension. Secondary hypertension is when high blood pressure is caused due to other conditions such as kidney disease or tumors.

What are the Causes of Hypertension? Although there are no concrete reasons that cause hypertension, there are several risk factors such as obesity, salt sensitivity, insulin resistance, genetics, and age. The risk of high blood is about five times higher if you are obese and if the BMI (Body Mass Index) is greater.

One of the primary reasons for primary hypertension is a high sodium intake. If the intake increases beyond the capacity of the body to eliminate it through the kidneys, the sodium moves into the intra-vascular compartment and increases pressure in the arteries. If you have a family history of hypertension there is an increased likelihood of your protracting it. At times, vitamin D deficiency can also cause hypertension. Secondary hypertension is caused due to various factors like sleep apnea, tumors, drugs, kidney diseases, and pregnancy. It could be triggered due to an unhealthy life style, bad eating habits, stress, and anxiety.

What are the Home Remedies for Hypertension? Although there are many medicines available for hypertension you can cut down on medication if you follow a simple healthy diet, avoid stress, and harmful habits such as smoking. There are also many natural remedies which you can try without having to shell out too much money.

One of the best remedies for hypertension is garlic. Try to eat two garlic cloves to keep the pressure normal and add garlic to your daily meals in the form of soups or salads. Bananas, oranges, guavas, apples, and Indian gooseberry are efficient in lowering hypertension. Carrots and spinach juices are also excellent remedies.
