Chafing Genital Treatments

Chafing is one of the most common problems and most of the time it occurs in the summer months. However, when it comes to genital chafing, it can occur at any time of the year. Let us first define what chafing is: chafing is the inflammation or abrasion that occurs in the skin of the patient due to continuous friction. The good news is that although skin injuries in the genitals due to chafing are very common, they are easily cured.

The prominent areas where chafing occurs include the inner thighs of overweight men and women and the armpits of obese people. When it comes to chafing in the genitals, it can be caused by wearing very tight underwear or lowers (especially jeans). Underwear made of synthetic material should be avoided at all costs. Sex without adequate lubrication is also a leading cause of chafing genitals. As most of us are not comfortable with visiting a doctor for treating genital problems, it is a relief that there are many home remedies that can help alleviate this problem.

The first line of treatment is to minimize or control sweating because it may cause several types of chaffing. The first thing you need to do is to keep yourself dry by wearing 100 % cotton underwear because it will absorb any kind of sweat. Keeping yourself dry is the best thing to do to combat chafing. Using talcum powder is a wise choice too; it keeps the body dry and reduces perspiration.

As the problem is restricted to the genital organs it is not caused solely by sweating but is more likely a kind of inflammation that occurs due to the friction between the male and female genitalia during intercourse. Obesity can also increase the risk of such friction normally and this would only be aggravated by perspiration. The next time you’re in the mood, opt for some non-oil based lubricant that can be applied on the genitals before intercourse.

You can also apply some Aloe Vera cream to the affected areas. Aloe is known for its healing effect and your chafed skin will become better. Another well known natural remedy is the application of coconut butter. Coconut butter is all natural and no chemicals will coat your chafed skin. A combination of coconut butter and Aloe Vera also works very well. Coconut butter may also be used as a lubricant during sexual intercourse, but do not use it with latex condoms. You can also include foods that are rich in vitamin A in your diet. Vitamin A is good for the skin and will speed up the healing process.
