What is Nausea?

Nausea by itself is not an illness but it is the symptom for various other conditions. If you are not suffering from upset stomach there are other illnesses that can cause this problem. Nausea is basically a reaction; the body has, due to the presence of some illness in your body.



Nausea is therefore primarily a symptom of some other disorder or health condition and in order to treat nausea it would be necessary to understand and address the cause. Nausea and vomiting are symptoms that generally go hand in hand but it isn’t necessary that the person will actually vomit. Nausea refers to a sensation that one experiences and the feeling of a need to vomit. In most cases that are unconnected with a specific ailment or disease the symptoms is simply fleeting or short lived, but it can be prolonged or persistent at times. Prolonged nausea can be quite debilitating as it leaves you feeling completely disoriented. If accompanied by vomiting there is the additional threat of dehydration.



Nausea is not a well defined symptom as it is simply a brief sensation that cannot be easily explained, despite the fact that most of us would have experienced it at some point.



Dizziness, nausea, and vomiting are all closely related, and symptoms like headaches, fatigue, abdominal pain, nausea, dizziness, back pain, vomiting and diarrhea can be treated quite easily with home remedies, provided the nausea is not persistent. Persistent nausea without vomiting, particularly after an injury, can however be indicative of a more serious condition, particularly when dealing with trauma to the head. Such situations would warrant immediate medical attention.

You may have to go through the stomach pain. There may be uneasiness and the feeling of butterflies in the stomach.

Dizziness

You may find yourself weak and dizzy. Dizziness and anxiety are typical experiences when suffering nausea.

Sweating

You sweat instantaneously due to the nauseating effect in your body.

Vomiting

Nausea is almost always accompanied by an urge to vomit or at least the feeling that you need to vomit. While most of these symptoms or rather manifestations of nausea may seem to be generated from the abdominal area they are actually governed by the brain and may be psychological in nature. This can cause retching or dry heaves, which is basically vomiting, without the expulsion of any fluids or other substances. While at times there may actually be vomiting at others the person will simply experience dry heaves. Very often when vomiting occurs it may even continue well after there is no food and liquid left to expel.



The main problem with nausea that is accompanied with vomiting would be the risk of dehydration. The loss of fluid and nutrients caused by this would also causes symptoms like dryness of the mouth and lips. Nausea and vomiting is particularly worrying in children because of the high risk of dehydration and it would be advisable to look out for symptoms like dryness of the mouth and lips, sunken eyes, and rapid breathing. Absence of urination is also likely to be noticeable. Nausea and vomiting during pregnancy is also extremely common and this in fact a typical symptom of pregnancy, particularly during the first trimester.

Problem in Digestion

Problems with digestive system cause nausea. If digestion does not take place properly you are bound to face this problem. Food poisoning for example, is a common cause of nausea as it causes great uneasiness and the urge to vomit. Similarly over eating or the excessive consumption of alcohol are also likely to cause nausea and possibly vomiting.

Nausea and vomiting during pregnancy are a lot less common in the latter stages, but in most cases it is not something you need to be alarmed about.



Feelings of nausea can also be stimulated by our sensory organs like taste and scent. Most of us would have experienced nausea of this nature at some point and it is usually fleeting and passes once the stimulant’s effect wears off. Emotions such as anxiety, panic and fear are also known to trigger nausea and dizziness. Nausea is also often accompanied by feelings like dizziness, fatigue, and exhaustion. Certain diseases may cause nausea as a specific symptom while others may simply cause weakness, which in turn may result in feelings of nausea. Certain medications, particularly the strong ones like those used in the treatment of cancer or strong painkillers may also cause nausea. Nausea may also be caused as a side effect of anesthesia used during surgical procedures.

It is good that you avoid eating strong flavoured foods. Also avoid being around strong smelling food as this makes you feel worse! I find that is helps if you have some really strong mint gum, like airwaves. This makes your throat feel clear, thus reducing the horrid feeling that you're going to be sick!

Inhale any aromatic soap or the fragrance you like of any soap. You will feel much better. Another remedy is to take half a lemon and put some salt and black pepper over it, after that just cook it in the pan with peel and just suck that for few minutes, you will feel better.
