Armpit odor can be extremely embarrassing especially in social circumstances that require proximity. A simple elevator ride or sitting besides a fellow-passenger while travelling can be a cause of embarrassment if you suffer from odor problems. Foul underarm odor is not caused by sweat but rather the bacteria that thrive in this region.

To get rid of this problem, you will have to deal with the root cause of your problem which is the bacteria.

Bacteria require a moist and warm environment to thrive, which unfortunately makes your armpit a very hospitable environment for them. You can follow a few basic home remedies for armpit odor to get rid of your problem.

Add two teaspoons of fuller’s earth to a small bowl and add enough fresh lemon juice to it, to make it a paste. Apply this paste to your underarms and allow it to dry completely before washing it off. Lemon juice is acidic in nature and destroys these bacteria. The high acid levels also create a hostile environment for the bacteria. If possible, use this method before your shower ion a daily basis for a week. After your shower, apply an antimicrobial powder to your underarms to keep it dry and prevent the bacteria from spreading. You can also take a handful of Margosa leaves and dry it in the shade. Pound these leaves until they are reduced to a fine powder and use this powder to dust your underarms.

Exfoliation is also important to get rid of dead skin cells as these only help to harbor the bacteria. You can use a regular skin scrub to exfoliate the area or you can make your own scrub. Make a thick coarse mixture out of sugar, rice flour, honey and a little tomato juice. Use this paste to scrub your underarms as it will help to get rid of any sebum and dead skin remnants. Sugar and rice flour are both coarse and will help to slough off the dead skin while honey is a mild antibacterial agent as well as a soothing tonic. Tomato juice is acidic in nature and will help to get rid of the bacteria. You can also apply a little fresh lemon juice to your underarms before you go to bed and wash it off only in the morning. Follow this routine for at least a week or two to get rid of armpit odor for good.
