Home Remedies For Dry Damaged Hair Repair

Posted in Category : Hair Care

The loss of moisture and oil content in the hair results in dry hair. Dry hair looks dull and is difficult to manage as it lacks a smooth texture. Malfunctioning of the oil glands is the prime cause for dry hair. Apart from that, there are both internal causes and external causes. External causes of dry hair include overexposure to environmental conditions, over shampooing, and overuse of styling products. Some health conditions such as hypothyroidism, nutritional deficiencies, stress, and malnutrition are internal causes of dry hair.

Mayonnaise and/or a honey and egg combination are simple hair treatments for damaged hair. Mayonnaise is an excellent homemade conditioner as it is made of egg yolks. Generously apply mayonnaise to your head and keep your head covered for 30 minutes; thereafter, wash it off with shampoo as you normally would. You can also mix an egg with honey and apply it on your hair. Leave it on for ten minutes and then rinse it off.

Homemade hair masks and herbal rinses are also some of the home remedies for damaged hair repair. Homemade hair masks supply nutrients, amino acids, and fatty acids and help to repair and restore dry hair as they nourish and moisturize the hair.

  • Olive Oil Hair Mask: Mix five tablespoons of olive oil with two eggs and apply this to the hair. Wrap the hair using a shower cap or plastic wrap and keep it in for 15 minutes. Rinse as normal.
  • Henna Pack: Mix henna powder with water and leave it overnight. Add plain yogurt, one egg and a few drops of lavender essential oil in the morning. Apply it to your hair and leave it on for two to three hours. Wash normally with shampoo.

Oiling the hair regularly also helps to restore hair. Mix castor oil, olive oil, coconut oil, and almond oil and apply it to the scalp and hair. Leave it on for a few hours and then rinse. Oil provides nourishment to dry hair and promotes circulation and healthy hair. Steam therapy after an oil massage is also helpful for severely dry and damaged hair repair. Dip a towel in hot water and squeeze water. Wrap the towel on the head for 10 minutes. Make sure the towel is not too hot.

An egg is a natural cleanser and conditioner and one of the excellent home remedies for damaged hair repair. You can use an egg without mixing it with anything. Take an egg and whip it with a little lukewarm water. Lather it, and apply in the hair and scalp. Wash off.

A mixture of an egg and honey, as mentioned earlier, can be used for dry damaged hair repair. You can further add oil to this to make it even more effective. Mix one egg, one tablespoon of honey, one tablespoon of coconut oil and almond oil and apply it to the hair. Leave it on for 30 minutes, and wash it with mild shampoo.

Avocado is also great for dry and damaged hair. Mix an overripe banana, avocados, and a few drops of olive oil together. Apply it and leave it on for about 20 minutes. Rinse with warm water.

Solution and Tips

Dull, brittle hair can be transformed into a healthy hair with proper treatment and regular care.

  • Avoid exposure to excessive heat from blow dryers, curling irons. Roller sets are the best protective style for dry damaged hair repair, as it is a great way to fix damaged hair without using a blow dryer or a flat iron.
  • Lifestyle changes like eating a balanced diet and getting regular exercise also helps to repair dry, damaged hair.
  • Regular trimming helps to get rid of dead hair, as it removes the split ends and thereby prevents the hair from further splitting into two.
