Ketosis Diet Plan

A basic ketosis diet is also called a ketogenic diet. This is a diet that is based on the principal of minimal carbohydrate intake. While there is no doubt or question that this kind of a diet will always show positive results in terms of quick weight loss, it is always wise to proceed with extreme caution while following a ketogenic diet. The reason for this is that it an also have adverse effects on your health. If you are lean, in particular, you will find that it is more difficult for your body to put up with the low carbohydrate intake. The basis of a ketogenic diet is an all time low carbohydrate intake of 30 grams of carbohydrates a day. If you can get to this point, it is absolutely essential that you stop consuming such a low carbohydrate count after 5 days. If you continue to do this, you may find that your body is releasing ketones via urine. This is not a good sign and should be avoided for your general health and well being. Basically, ketosis is the process that occurs when the body is deprived of even a basic amount of carbohydrates and is forced to start using up body fat reserves for energy to function.

A typical ketogenic diet would include consumption of about 30 to 60 grams of fat in a day. You should be reading nutritional information on each and every thing you put in your mouth if you want to follow a strict ketogenic diet. Understand that all kinds of foods and sources of all nutrition contain some amount of carbohydrates. You cannot ignore even a single gram of carbohydrate if you are going to be on a ketogenic diet. You would need to take in other nutrients as well, but you will have to make sure that primarily your carbohydrates’ intake does not go up via your consumption of protein and other nutrients. You should at the same time make sure that you are eating all other natural foods such as vegetables and meat sources such as meat and eggs as well. Eliminate red meat and opt for lean meats such as chicken. Fish is to be eaten very selectively – for example, stay off shrimp, which is very nigh in cholesterol. Egg whites may be eaten, but yolks are a complete no-no. Low sugar fresh fruit such as citrus fruit is better than fleshy fruits like mangoes.
