Pattabhi Jois was a renowned Sanskrit scholar who motivated western yogis with his style of Ashtanga yoga. His Philosophies inspired his devotees to introduce Power yoga in the western world. This is the reason that Power Yoga is considered a close version of Ashtanga yoga.
The term Power Yoga was commonly used in 1990s and was concocted by Beryl Bendere Birch who is based in New York and who wrote the book ‘Power Yoga: The Practice'. Power yoga was simultaneously invented by Bryan Kest, who is based in Los Angeles. Both of them have studied with Sri Jois.
They also have their own power yoga dvd and power yoga video to help instruct the yogis. Through power yoga total body workout, basic yoga poses are performed and it provides brisk workouts which even the beginners can tackle. Power yoga teaches to retain the poses for a longer period of time which enhances our staying power.
The sequence of poses synchronizes breathing pattern and increases flexibility. Every move or Vinyasa is performed with accord and poise. Although the procedure of performing Power yoga exercises may seem supple and smooth from the outside but for yogis it is filled with vibrancy and vigor. The process requires twisting of each and every pat of the body without losing balance.
