Remedy for Poison Ivy

suggested by Cheryl on Saturday, June 23, 2007

Like everyone else, I'm very allergic to it and it spreads rapidly on me. Try Nutragena On the Spot acne cream. It really helps too!

I am terribly allergic to poison Ivy, but someone told me about Arrid Extra Dry. Must be in spray form and must contain aluminum chlorohydrate. Spray at first sign of poison ivy and it starts drying the rash immediately!

Works for Poison Ivy

suggested by Brian on Tuesday, June 12, 2007

I am exteremly allergic to poison ivy. The only cure that I have found that dries it up in 3-4 days is to apply Ice Blue Aqua Velva after shave on it with a cotton ball or cotton swab and let it dry. When that is try, cover it with a thin coat of Extra Strength Benadryl CREAM. You can buy these both at any local drugstore. If I don't use this, I have to go to the doctor for a shot and steroid pills and antibiotics because of very severe reactions. My dad discovered the Aqua Velva cure when he spilled some on his poison ivy by mistake on a business trip. Works well for both of us.

Poison Ivy relief

A plant that often grows around poison ivy in damp ground is Jewelweed. It gets to be about 3 foot tall with little orange flowers on it. Break a piece of the stem and smear the sap on the rash or the whole plant minus roots can be chopped up and boiled until it is a very dark tea, then strained, and the liquid applied to the rash. Works great.

The Cure for Poison Ivy or Oak

suggested by Lin on Sunday, May 13, 2007

Leaves of three..let it be!! Shower with Dawn dish soap THOROUGHLY after ANY outdoor encounter (not a bath). If small areas of rash develop, using some ARRID XX Solid deodorant ON YOUR FINGER, work the deodorant into the rash every time it begins to look moist. (do not rub the deodorant stick through the rash). This will dry out the rash in a day or two. If not improving in 6 days, or actually worsening..YOU NEED A SHOT from your doctor.

Poison Ivy

suggested by Nancy on Tuesday, May 8, 2007

My husband and daughter usually get poison ivy horribly every Spring/Summer,Literally covering their entire body, so this is a tried and true remedy! We are going on two years since we had any "serious" outbreaks. Immediately shower useing Dawn dishwashing liquid as a soap. This washes off the urushiol oil.(then they use a moisturizing soap after) If you do end up with a rash use Band Aid brand anti-itch gel several times a day, any time it itches. My daughter was literally rolling in a field loaded with poison ivy and we did this and she didn't even get the slightest rash. The best is to shower immediately upon getting into the poison, the sooner you wash the oils off the less likely you will get a rash. When we go walking in the forest I carry a wet wash rag with a little dawn on it in a ziploc for that accidental touching.

Poison Ivy/Oak Itch Remedy

suggested by Margaret on Saturday, May 5, 2007

As described in Earl Mindell's Vitamin Bible, you can take 1000 mg of Vitamin C and 400 IU's of Vitamin E together. I tried this when pregnant with poison ivy, and the itch relief (which was absolutely unbearable) was miraculous! I only needed to take this dose twice a day. The first time I did it, the itching was gone within 30 minutes. By the way, the baby was born with no complications or defects.

knowledge is the best remedy. Learn to identify the plant and vine then stay away from it. I learned the hard way and ended up getting it in the end, on my buttocks, don't ask me how!!!

Poison Ivy Relief

suggested by K. on Friday, March 16, 2007

I have suffered from a severe allergy to poison ivy,oak and sumac since I was a child. I have never found any prescription drug or over-the-counter ointment/medication to be as effective as the homeopathic remedy known as Rhus Toxicodendron. You can purchase this in health food stores. It comes in pellet or tiny pills. It is widely used as a treatment for arthritis but it is very helpful with controlling the rash and reducing swelling and blisters from the poison of those plants. I also recommend using topical remedies such as oatmeal and clay.
