Mucus In Throat
When mucus produced in the sinuses and nasal passages flows backwards into the throat cavity, it gets accumulated there and causes irritation. Various kinds of allergies are chiefly responsible for the accumulation of mucus in the throat. Smoking also leads to this condition. This may result in severe coughing.
There are a few natural remedies for getting rid of mucus in the throat. One of the easiest ways of keeping the throat cavity clean is to blow your nose regularly. This expels mucus from the nasal passage and prevents it from dripping into the throat cavity. Another popular and effective way of cleansing the throat is to gargle with a glass of warm water into which a pinch of common salt has been added. The salt helps absorb the excess mucus in the respiratory passage and the hot water helps open up clogged passages. Repeating this process thrice every day is greatly beneficial in treating this condition. Make a paste by adding a tablespoon of ginger powder in two tablespoons of honey and eat this mixture several times a day. This makes the mucus less dense and eases its expulsion from the body.
Another remedy is to steep some carom seeds in boiling water and inhale the steam of this solution from a tub by bending over it and covering your head with a towel. The vapors open up the nasal and throat passages and help release the accumulated mucus. For another remedy, mix a tablespoon each of lime juice and honey in a glass of hot water and stir the ingredients well. Once the water cools down, drink it in little sips. Honey eases the sore throat while the chemicals in the lime juice help expel the mucus. Alternatively, you could add half a teaspoon each of turmeric powder and salt into a cup of milk and drink this solution twice every day to relieve yourself of excess mucus. It is also advisable that you use a humidifier in your room if the air you breathe feels too dry, as this helps prevent congestion of the throat by mucus. You must also stop smoking and avoid eating dairy products and ice-cream, as these cause the mucus to become dense and obstruct the throat cavity. Also, avoid going out into crowded and polluted streets, as the irritants and allergens in the air may worsen the condition. Drinking fluids like tea, water and milk also helps replenish the water lost due to mucus formation and eases the throat.
