Cure for Headache Due to Hangover

Posted in Category : Natural Cures

An excess consumption of alcohol can sometimes leads to headache, a bad taste in the mouth and an uneasy stomach a few hours after consumption. This condition is commonly called hangover. Alcohol is a dehydrating agent so it naturally reduces the water level in the body, which is the cause behind a hangover. The obvious way of preventing a hangover is, therefore, to drink lots of water before beginning to consume alcohol. You must also consume a moderate amount of alcohol in smaller quantities gradually over a period of time rather than large pegs at one go. This allows for the system to absorb the alcohol slowly. It is also advisable not to have salted nuts and snacks with alcohol, as these also contribute to dehydration and make the person feel like drinking more alcohol. Having a protein-rich meal before drinking alcohol is also a good idea, as proteins have the natural property of using up the alcohol in the body quickly, thereby preventing dehydration.

You can also try a few simple home remedies to treat a headache caused by a hangover. Add the juice of a half a lemon to a cup of tea that has not been sugared. Lemon has natural detoxifying properties that helps regulate blood sugar level in the body instantly and relieves the headache. Alternatively, you may also add the juice of a lemon into a glass of cold water and sip it every 5 minutes to get quick relief from headache. Fructose, which is a form of natural sugar found mostly in fruits, is known to absorb alcohol quickly hence eating fruits like apples and bananas is very useful to counter the effects of a hangover. Bananas are also rich in magnesium and potassium, and have natural anti-acidic properties which help relax the blood vessels and reduce the feeling of nausea caused by a hangover. Honey has the highest concentration of natural sugars, which help break down and consume the molecules of alcohol in the blood so eating a few slices of bread or crackers with honey is effective way of treating a hangover. You may also consume a mixture of mashed banana, milk and honey to get rid of the headache. For another remedy, crush a few thyme leaves and boil them in a cup of water for 5 minutes; then drink the clear liquid to cure the headache.
