I see a white pulp in the back of my throat. what is that?

The white pulp in the throat may be probably due to tonsillitis. Tonsillitis is the infection of the tonsils. Tonsils are cluster of fleshy tissue that lies on both sides of the back of the throat above and behind the tongue. Tonsils contain certain antibodies that can kill the incoming germs and thus prevent infection to some extent.

Tonsillitis is caused due to viral infection but sometimes it can be bacterial. It affects children between 5 to 15 years of age. It can spread through throat or nasal fluids like saliva or hand contact or through air.

Person suffering from tonsillitis may have sore throat, white or yellowish coating on the tonsils due to pus formation, chills, fever and swollen glands in the neck. If you have tonsillitis, then it is advisable to have a plenty of rest and drink lots of water and eat regularly. Tonsillitis can be cleared by the immune system within few days. However in severe cases, surgery is the best option.
