However, some people go to extreme ends while losing weight by indulging in unhealthy crash diets, fat reducing tonics and by taking other weight reducing drugs. It is therefore, very important to distinguish between healthy and unhealthy ways of losing weight. The most efficient way of distinguishing between the two is: an unhealthy way of losing weight will boast of quick results and no discipline, while a healthy way of losing weight will take longer to show results and will involve a lifestyle change. The results of losing weight by following a quick fix method will be temporary.  On the other hand, the results of healthy weight loss will last much longer and maintain the overall health of your body too.

The following simple suggestions, if followed sincerely will help you lose weight effectively. It would require a little determination, will power and discipline. The most effective way of losing weight is by implementing lifestyle changes. This can be broken down into basic steps:

Step 1: Eat Healthy – Many people feel that the most important way of losing weight is by avoiding food or by starving. But this is far from being true. Eating healthy is the key to reducing your body weight. Eating healthy implies that you should eat moderate amounts of food 6 times a day rather than stuffing your self 3 times a day. Eating smaller portions at regular intervals allows your body to digest the food more efficiently, thus increasing your metabolic rate. Eating healthy also means including fresh fruits and vegetables in your diet. Switching to olive oil would also prove beneficial as it contains monounsaturated fats that actually help your body to burn its fat reserves.

Step 2: Exercising – Exercising, is very important. It increases the body’s resistance level and also helps in boosting the body’s immune system. The most important function, however, is the fact that it is the best way of burning fat which is stored up in the body. Getting involved in sports like football, basketball, tennis and the likes will help you lose weight effectively. Aerobics, karate, salsa classes and kick boxing are also known to achieve the same. The act of exercising or playing a sport, forces the body to use more energy, thus burning fat in the process.

Step 3: Maintaining Healthy habits – Our habits make us what we are. If you watch too much of TV you will land up becoming a couch potato. Therefore, avoid wasting too much time in front of your TV. Eat on time and sleep early. Sleeping for at least 8 hours daily provides the body with a good amount of rest. Avoid smoking and drinking alcohol or carbonated water. Following these suggestions will help you lose weight in a proportionate manner.
