Back Pain Remedies: How do I get rid of back spasms?



There are few methods to get rid of back spasms apart from exercise and rest. Since spasms are generally caused due to overuse of the muscle surrounding the spine, there are two streams of thought about their causes. One would be that the spasm is merely ensuring restriction of the use of the spine from that area of the back, as it needs to rest. The other would be that there is some sort of overuse of the particular area of the back and so the muscles are tired and are going into a spasm.

The best way to overcome the pain of a spasm is to rest your back completely. You would need to find a comfortable position in which you can rest your back and remain like that for most part. Application of ice packs can provide relief by numbing the area. Moist hot packs would be a better way to help your back to heal, even though this method may not provide any immediate relief. Once you have managed to get rid of a spasm, make exercise a daily part of your life. For back spasms in particular, you can indulge in stretching exercises, which would help to keep your muscles fluid and flexible. Make it a point to drink lots of water. Dehydrated muscles have a tendency to tire out faster and therefore spasm more often and quickly.
