Prognosis of Stomach Cancer

The prognosis of stomach cancer can vary. If tumors are situated in the lower stomach there are easier to cure than those in the upper stomach. The extent of invasion of the tumor and whether the lymph nodes are involved will also affect the diagnosis and treatment of this type of cancer. Other complications of stomach cancer include severe weight loss, gastrointestinal bleeding, and ascites.

Once the stomach cancer has spread to other organs in the body, the possibility of a cure is minimal. In such cases, treatment is targeted more towards offering relief from the symptoms rather than a cure.
