Living with Stomach Cancer

Stomach cancer and its treatment can lead to other health conditions and problems. Care and support is needed before, during, and after undergoing any form of cancer treatment.

Living with cancer entails:

  • Relieving symptoms and side effects of medications and treatment
  • Educating yourself about the illness in order to make well-informed decisions regarding your treatment and care. Good sources of information about cancer include the National Cancer Institute and the American Cancer Society
  • Consulting with a therapist or counselor to help cope with the feelings that come along with the diagnosis and treatment of cancer
  • Taking an active role in all decisions pertaining to your treatment and medication. Consult with your doctor and specialist about what treatments are best for you.
  • Connecting with other cancer survivors. This provides you with a support system as well as bonds with people with similar afflictions.
  • Staying active and taking time out for yourself to relax, eat well and combat the stress of the illness.
