Prevention for Poisoning

Preventing poisoning involves avoiding exposure to harmful and poisonous substances. These precautions can help to prevent accidental poisoning:

  • Lock up all household cleaning products and keep them out of reach of children.
  • Cosmetics such as nail polish remover, gardening items like weed killer, and bug repellent should be stored according to their instructions.
  • Childproofing your home with safety locks and child guards is a good idea if you have young children or toddlers.
  • Wear gloves when using cleaning products or chemicals.
  • Do not use paint thinners or pesticides inside the house.
  • Do not mix chemicals on your own.
  • Keep your medical cabinet neat and label all drugs along with their expiry dates. Keep all medicines in their original containers.
  • Service your appliances that use gas or wood regularly.
  • Install a carbon monoxide detector in your home to indicate any gas leakage.
  • Handle food hygienically and store produce safely. Throw away any expired or moldy products.
Be aware of the plants in your garden and neighborhood. Do not eat wild mushrooms and berries, as they may be poisonous.
