Type 2 Diabetes SymptomType 2 diabetes denotes the condition wherein the body does not react to insulin in the right manner.
It is the most common type of diabetes and is usually seen in older people after the age of 45 years. In type 2 diabetes, the insulin is not able to transform glucose into energy. Pancreas produce even more insulin since it gets the signal that insulin is not being utilized properly. The body has more glucose, which gets deposited in the body, and also more insulin.
Hence, it is an autoimmune disease.
The diabetes type 2 symptoms may not be seen all at a time. It develops slowly because the blood sugar levels in the body increases gradually. One may not even realize that one has type 2 diabetes. In fact, many people face severe consequences in the future because by the time they realize the type 2 diabetes symptoms it becomes late.
The risk factors and complications involved increase to a large extent.
It is estimated that one third of the diabetes population doesn’t even know that they have diabetes. This is because they are not aware of the type 2 diabetes sign.
The type 2 diabetes sign are frequent urination especially during nighttime, excessive thirst due to frequent urination, increased appetite which is more than the usual food intake, weight loss inspite of the increased hunger and appetite, feeling of tiredness, fatigue and irritability and feeling low, or emotionally weak. Each of these type 2 diabetes symptom may not be occurring at the same time.
The above-mentioned type 2 diabetes symptoms are standard / classic.
Apart from these the other diabetes type 2 symptom such as blurred vision, infections/injuries or wounds that heal slowly, recurrent infections, numbness, swelling or burning pain in the hands or feet area. Another type 2 diabetes sign is the infection of the skin, gum or bladder or even vaginal yeast infection in case of women.
When the type 2 diabetes related complications increase it may lead to additional diabetes type 2 symptoms. The vision becomes distorted and blurred. The person can see flashes of light and floating spots or large areas looking like fibers or hair.
The kidney portion may get affected and in severe cases dialysis can be needed. There might be swelling, burning pain and numbness in the hands and feet. Palpitations of the heart coupled with shortness of breath and chest pain may be the sign of heart related problems due to type 2 diabetes.
Consult a registered dietician or nutritionist who will lay down a diet plan. A diet plan coupled with regular exercise is a great precautionary measure to keep the sugar levels in the blood under control.
Doctors may prescribe some medication or insulin dosage if the case is severe. Attention must be given to any injuries/ wounds/ infections especially of the feet.
