An enlarged uterus is very often also referred to as endometriosis. This is a chronic condition that is known to affect millions of women across the globe. This condition is brought about when the endometrium, the tissues that form the inner lining of the uterus, begins to attach itself or grow outside the uterus, leading to the formation of lesions. This particular kind of growth generally occurs in a woman’s pelvic region such as the ovaries as well as on other pelvic structure like the colon and bladder. This kind of an abnormal growth at times may also spread to the abdominal cavity such as the legs, arms and lungs. Severity and the symptoms of the condition may vary from one woman to another; in fact this condition may not always display any visible symptoms. However, having said that, some of the common signs of this condition being present are; painful periods, pelvic pain, pain during intercourse, pain while urinating, abdominal swelling, fatigue, lower back pain, infertility and heavy or irregular bleeding during menstrual cycles.

Treatment for Enlarged Uterus

The exact cause of this particular condition is yet to be determined; some researchers however contribute its occurrence to genetic factors. Here are a few home remedies that can help in treating this condition. Ginger tea is considered to be good for this ailment as it helps to reduce nausea and vomiting. Add a teaspoon of finely chopped ginger root to two cups of water. Let the two simmer for 10-15 minutes on a low fire. Leave the solution aside for a few minutes to cool, after which strain out the liquid into a glass. This decoction should be had 2-3 times a day. The application of a hot or cold compress on to the abdominal area will help in alleviating pain.

Fruit juices, particularly pineapple, papaya, mango and black grapes are recommended for this condition. In addition certain herbs such as false unicorn, cohosh, chaste berry and cramp bark are also recommended for alleviating symptoms. Avoid alcohol, caffeine, sugar and all kinds of red meat, as this will simply aggravate the condition. In addition, stay away from processed and fried foods and dairy products. A diet that is high in fiber and low in fat is suggested. Vegetables and fresh fruits, cereals, salads and whole grain are all rich in fiber. Fish and foods that contain vitamin B will also help individuals with this condition. Try and fit in at least 30 minutes of exercise daily.
