Piles also known as hemorrhoids, is a common condition experienced by many people around the world. Piles or hemorrhoids occur when the veins present in the lower rectum become inflamed and swollen. The primary cause for the occurrence of the inflammation and swelling is the overexertion of the tissue present in the anal region.
This happens when a person experiencing chronic constipation strains excessively during bowel movements, or when an athlete exerts excessive pressure on the anal tissue while performing strenuous exercise, and when a person maintains a constant posture that applies excessive stress on the anal tissue for a prolonged period of time. Though anyone can be affected by this condition, people above the age of 50 are more prone towards developing it. This is because after a certain age, the tissues present in an individual’s body lose their elasticity. Piles can be extremely painful if left untreated and therefore individuals experiencing hemorrhoids or piles should avoid waiting until his or her condition becomes worse. Fortunately, there are many effective home remedies that can help in reducing the pain, swelling, and inflammation caused by this condition.
- In order to obtain effective relief from the pain and itchy feeling caused by external piles you may apply aloe vera gel on the affected area. Aloe vera gel helps in soothing the inflamed veins and also acts as an invisible bandage. Similarly, you may also benefit from the application of over-the-counter creams containing hydrocortisone.
- Sitting in a warm bath tub will also prove beneficial in treating the pain and swelling. If this is not possible, you may apply warm compresses instead in order to experience effective relief.
- Cold compresses are also effective in alleviating the pain caused by this condition. Cold compresses work by numbing the nerves present in the affected area, thus reducing the painful and itchy sensation.
- Buttermilk made from cow’s milk is another effective solution for treating piles or hemorrhoids. Add one teaspoon of ginger juice, a pinch or two of peppercorns and a pinch of rock salt to the butter milk for better results. Drink this solution twice a day, as it is very beneficial in getting rid of the pain caused by this condition.
- Diet plays an important role in the treatment of piles, as constipation is the primary cause of this condition. Piles relieving diet should contain foods that are rich in dietary fiber. Vegetables like cabbage, beet and the like; whole grains, and fruits like, pears, apples, bananas; are the best sources of dietary fiber, and should be consumed on a daily basis.
