Cure Of Itchy Ears: Hi, I am suffering from Itchy ears. Lately, I have been experiencing itchy feeling on my ears. Please advice a remedy.

Itchy ears do not classify as a ear condition in itself. However, it is one of the most common symptoms faced by many individuals experiencing a ear infection known as swimmers ear. This ear infection is caused by bacteria that affect the skin lining of the ear canal. The ear functions best when it is dry and moisture free. Unfortunately, the ears tend to get infected quite easily when faced with moist environments, or while swimming. This is because the ears cannot dry naturally, and the narrow passage of the ear canal becomes a thriving ground for bacteria or fungi that grow very easily in warm and moist places. Luckily, swimmer’s ear is not a very serious condition and can be treated quite effectively with the help of a few simple home remedies. However, it is recommended that you visit a ear specialist for a thorough checkup if your condition does not improve within two days from using the treatments mentioned below.

  • Although swimmer’s ear is caused by bacteria or by fungi that thrive in warm and moist places, a warm compress with the help of a heating pad, or a hot water bottle wrapped in a towel will be very beneficial in reducing the itchy sensation that you are experiencing.
  • Garlic is very effective when it comes to treating many kinds’ bacterial infections. Garlic proves quite potent when it comes to treating ear infections too. You can make an effective ear drop out of garlic that can be released into your ears. For this purpose take a few pods of garlic, and add them to 10 ml of olive oil. Crush the garlic present in the olive oil, in order to allow its juice to mix with olive oil. Heat this mixture for a few minutes until the mixture comes to a boil. Allow the oil to cool down for sometime and then put 2 drops of this garlic-olive oil in your affected ear. The garlic present in the oil will help in getting rid of the infection, while olive oil will soothe the itchy sensation.
  • For another effective home remedy, you can mix rubbing alcohol and distilled white vinegar in equal proportions. You can use a sterile eye dropper to drop 2-3 drops of this mixture in each ear. This will help in getting rid of the infection effectively.
  • Make sure you cover your ears while bathing. Dry your ears thoroughly after bath with a towel. You can use a hair drier on medium setting in order to dry out your ears. Make sure you hold it at safe distance from your ears in order to avoid ear damage.
