What to do about itchy ears

An itchy ear often keep you wondering what is the cause is but more than that it keeps your more in an irritated state. An itchy ear can be due to a fungal infection, dermatitis of the ear canal, sometimes the skin near the ear becomes excessively dry (due to excessive ear cleaning to remove the wax or lack of ear wax) can also cause itching of the ears. The itchiness can be due to an adverse effect of a particular medication or even an allergy. It is important to know the exact cause for an appropriate treatment. Instead of trying any over the counter drops it would be wise to consult a specialist (ENT specialist) who would diagnose the exact problem and prescribe medications accordingly. Till then try to avoid scratching as far as possible (I know it would be difficult but please try) as it can worsen your situation. Also avoid pricking your ears with a pin, paper or any pointed instrument for your own safety.
