Seborrheic dermatitis is a kind of eczema of skin condition in which the oil glands of the skin are affected. Normally the skin secretes an oily substance which helps to naturally moisturize the skin and keep the hair silky but in seborrheic dermatitis a yellowish pus-like substance is secreted instead of the oil. This happens because the body is trying to naturally get rid of the high levels of toxic substances in its system.
Since the body can’t retain the toxic substances inside, it expels them through the skin. Sometimes seborrheic dermatitis is also an indication of nutritional deficiencies. Seborrheic dermatitis that affects the scalp could be due to a number of reasons such as infrequent shampooing, exposure to extreme weather and pollution and even extreme fatigue and stress.
Infants often get afflicted by seborrheic dermatitis in the cradle and a thick yellow scaly crust develops on their scalp but the problem goes away by the age of 3 years.
Seborrheic dermatitis can be treated at home using simple home remedies. First and foremost, you should wash your hair regularly using an anti-fungal shampoo containing sulfur, salicylic acid, zinc pyrithione, selenium sulphide or ketoconazole. You should expose your scalp to natural sunlight for a few horus everyday so that the yeast does not get a chance to grow. You can rub an freshly cut onion on your hair and scalp before washing your hair. Alternately you can massage some freshly squeezed onion jucie into your scalp to inhibit growth of yeast. Rubbing cheese that is a few days old or even some vinegar into the scalp helps to treat seborrheic dermatitis. Since seborrheic dermatitis is directly linked to the growth of the candida yeast in the body, you should avoid foods such as bread, beer and wine which have a high yeast content. You should also avoid saturated fats and refined sugars which encourage growth of yeast. Foods rich in Vitamin B are good for the hair and skin and thus you should consume more of avocados, bananas, soybeans, grains, nuts, seeds and leafy green vegetables. It is also important to increase your intake of zinc by consuming more egg yolks, fish, soybeans, sunflower seeds and whole grains, in order to regulate the activity of oil produced by the seborrheic glands. Fiber helps to eliminate the candida yeast so you should consume more fiber to treat seborrheic demrmatitis and also to keep your system clean. Finally foods rich in omega 3 fatty acids such as deep water fish, soybean and flaxseed oils are beneficial for the skin.
