Acidity can be a result of improper dietary regimen or stress. These simple remedies might provide relief:

  • Raw garlic intake after food is good.
  • A sherbet made with kokum and cumin seeds reduces acidity.


  • Eat 3-4 almonds during heartburns.
  • To a glass of water, squeeze the juice of a lemon with a teaspoon of sugar. Drink before meals and feel the relief.


  • Juice of white pumpkin in an empty stomach is very effective.
  • A glass of cold milk provides immediate relief.
  • Mint juice before meals keeps acidity at bay.
  • Chew cardamom after every meal.
  • Onion juice is also helpful.
  • Chewing 5-6 basil leaves relieves flatulence and acidity.

Acidity is a problem which when left unattended to, results in peptic ulcer and other complications.  Try these easy-to-do home remedies:


1. Take a mixture of 2 tsp of natural apple cider vinegar and 2 tsp raw honey in a glass of water before meals.


2. Take one piece of clove and suck on it slowly. This will give you relief from acidity and also help in reducing the onslaught of diseases arising out of acidity.


3. Avoid fried foods, pickles, hot spicy foods, vinegar, and chocolate.


4. Eat a cup of vanilla ice cream or drink a glass of cold milk to get heartburn and acidity relief within minutes.


5. Drink tender coconut water 3-4 times a day.


6. Bananas, watermelon and cucumber have protective action against the acidity and heart burn. Eating a banana daily will prevent such conditions.


7. Avoid raw salad of vegetables like onion, cabbage, radish, and peppers.


8. A piece of jaggery should be placed in the mouth and sucked till, acidity subsides.


9. Avoid unripe high pectin fruits, such as unripe apple. But ripe apple  or fuji apple may help.


10. Eat 4-5 almonds, whenever heartburns start.


11. Chew the food properly. Do not eat in a hurry/skip meals.


12. Keep a minimum time interval between meals, as this decreases production of gas.


13. Maintaining an upright/sitting procedure is helpful, as it prevents acid reflux (re-entry of acid).


14. Drink plenty of water, at least 8 glasses daily.


15. Do not eat just before going to bed. Eat around 1-2 hours, before sleeping.


16. Discontinue smoking and cut down on alcohol.
