Appendicitis is a rather common condition that is characterized by the inflammation of an organ called the appendix. The condition will generally require immediate medical attention as, when left untreated, it is known to have a rather high mortality rate. Initially, because of the symptoms of the condition, it is often confused with being nothing more than a simple stomach ache.
This is the main reason that it is important to be able to identify and be able to correctly seek appendicitis treatment. Despite numerous amounts of research on attempting to identify the purpose of the appendix, the medical fraternity has not been able to identify the main function of the appendix in the human body. This is also because its removal does not seem to affect any part of the body’s functionality. There are a number of appendicitis causes such as enlarged lymph tissue on the wall of the appendix. This is usually the result of an infection within the gastrointestinal tract. However the condition can also be caused by a number of other medical ailments such as crohn’s disease and inflammatory bowel disease. As mentioned previously, it could be rather dangerous to leave an inflamed appendix untreated as in the event the infection bursts, the infection will spread through the abdomen. This would then lead to the development of another serious condition known as peritonitis. Some of the other symptoms of the condition include a loss of appetite, constipation as well as diarrhea, an inability to pass gas and abdominal swelling.
Because of the fact that the condition is such a common one, there are a number of home remedies that can be used to alleviate the substantial amount of appendicitis pain that one is likely to experience in their abdomen.
