Pelvic Pain in Women:

Pelvic pain is that pain that one feels in pelvic area of body. There are several reasons for the occurrence of this particular pain, some of which are common in nature. Pelvic pain is not a condition in itself, but it is a symptom of some other underlying problem.

This problem could be related to some gynecologic problems or some gastrointestinal disorders or even some body-wide disorders. One of the biggest causes for intense pelvic pain can be menstruation. Others can be treated by an expert once the symptoms are found.

Pelvic pain can also be caused by a condition called endometriosis; wherein the endometrial tissue appears to be not only within the uterus but it also appears to be outside. This can cause severe pain and can even cause problems with the woman’s fertility. Other gynecological reasons include pelvic inflammatory diseases. This condition is caused by either sexually transmitted organisms or a ruptured appendix. It is even caused by scarring from a pelvic surgery. It usually involves the uterus, the ovaries and the fallopian tubes. It is known to cause uterine bleeding, intense pain, and also fever and chills.

Apart from these gynecological causes, the pelvic pain may also be the result of some bowel disorder which can lead to infrequent bowel movements and even constipation. It can even cause a painful bladder syndrome and another condition called interstitial cystitis. These lead to intense pain and also give the woman a frequent urge to pass urine without there being any infection. Diverticulitis or it is sometimes called an inflamed colon syndrome is characterized by an inflammation of the diverticula, which is a sac-like protrusion that comes from the wall of the colon and also causes the woman severe pelvic pain. Fibromyalgia, which is a chronic problem, normally affects the muscles and the ligaments. It even affects the tendons and can cause intense pain and also tenderness in different parts of the human body besides the pelvic region.

There are various treatments that are recommended to help treat pelvic pain. One of them is surgery, like a laparoscopy or a hysterectomy, to help to remove this problem. However it is always advisable to either consult with a doctor properly or visit a hospital and ensure that the pain does not return after surgery before one goes through with it. Besides this, there is also psychotherapy and even physiotherapy that can be coupled with some exercises. This has been found to be very helpful to many patients, mainly women who are suffering from pelvic pain.
