Prevention - The Best Cure for Wrinkles

by Sharon Hopkins

Prevention is usually the best treatment for most problems, including wrinkles. The more you take care of your skin, the younger and softer it will continue to stay. Wrinkles are a natural part of the ageing process. However in today's fast paced, stressful times, we age much faster that we should. Huge consumption of junk food, exposure to pollution and high levels of stress can cause our bodies to deteriorate in a slow manner. Your skin begins to age soon after your teens; therefore it is important to practice good skin care early on itself to prevent wrinkles. Still, it is never too late to take proper care of your skin. No matter what your age, you can still take the necessary steps to preserve the health of your skin and prevent further damage.

Skin Care Routine

An ideal skin care routine should incorporate the following steps:

  • Cleansing - You should cleanse your skin twice everyday with a gentle, non-perfumed cleanser.
  • Toning - Using a good toner will help to remove any dirt or make-up left behind on the skin. It will also help to minimize the pores and keep the skin fresh.
  • Moisturizer - Applying a good moisturizer will help to keep your skin hydrated and supple. You can opt for a lightweight moisturizer during the summers and a creamier, nourishing one during the winters.
  • Exfoliation - This is a beneficial practice which removes dead skin cells and leaves your skin much softer and smoother.
  • Anti-aging - The most important step in anti-ageing is to use a sunscreen. You can also talk to your dermatologist about using a special cream for wrinkles and fine lines.

Home Remedies

  • One of the most important steps in preventing premature ageing is drinking an adequate amount of water every day. This will help to eliminate toxins from the body and also keep your skin soft.
  • Egg whites can be used in wrinkle treatment. Apply the white of an egg to the area under your eyes twice every week. Let it dry and then gently wash the area with lukewarm water. The under eye area is prone to lines and wrinkles.
  • Break a capsule of vitamin E to extract the oil. Add two teaspoons of the oil to plain yogurt and half a teaspoon each of honey and lemon juice. Mix well and then apply the mixture to your face. Leave it on for about ten minutes and then wash it off with lukewarm water.
  • Olive oil is one of most effective treatments for preventing wrinkles. This hydrating oil also has antioxidant properties. You can add olive oil to your food and also use it to gently massage your skin. To use it as a topical application, first steam your face and then massage the oil into damp skin.
  • Eat a nutritious and balanced diet in order to keep your body, including your skin, healthy. Make sure to consume an adequate quantity of fruits and vegetables. These are rich in antioxidants which help to fight free radicals and prevent your body from damage due to ageing.
  • Grapes contain certain antioxidants which are greatly helpful in treating wrinkles. Take a seedless grape and cut it in half. Rub the cut portion over your face and then allow it to dry. Leave it on for about 15 minutes and rinse it off with lukewarm water.
  • Permanent lines can develop on the face through repetitive muscle contractions. These lines can then easily become wrinkles. Therefore try controlling your facial muscles. Avoid crinkling your forehead and squinting as these movements can lead to permanent creases on your facial skin.
