remedy for cold sores
suggested by Leshonte on Monday, October 1, 2007

I often get cold sores on my top lip. I cannot remember where I heard the cure but it really works, apply earwax to the cold sore and it will be gone within 24 hours. I know it sounds nasty, but of all things, this cure really works. As I mentioned before, I get them very often and for the past few years, this remedy has worked for myself as well as others that ive told about it.

Tea Tree Oil, etc.
suggested by [unspecified] on Monday, October 1, 2007

I have suffered from cold sores my entire life, so I've tried everything. A few that work the best are to drink a vitamin -C packet (or take a pill) at the first sign of a cold sore. This will help your immune system fight it off quicker. Using ice will help the swelling. Using tea tree oil helps sooth. Using Abreva only really helps if you use it immediately. Carmex doesn't really do anything except make your coldsore more noticable. Hydrogen Peroxide helps clean out the cold sore, making it heal quicker

I've tried so many types of remedies and nothing seemed to work..I would try everything and anything to prevent scabbing and have had zero luck. UNTIL I felt a cold sore coming on and decided to try Blistex (the kind with the squeezable applicator). I continuously kept soaking the area with it not allowing my lips to get dry at ANY point 24/7. DO NOT mess with it! Trying to "pop" it or pick at it will only make it worst! It was amazingly unnoticeable for 2 days and went away pain free. The key is never allow it to dry out. Alcohol seemed to be the worst. Please try it, I hope this at least helps someone. Cold sores are embarrassing, painful, ugly and awful!

i like carmex, which comes in a little yellow tin can. It's a balm used for chapped lips and cold sores, and works pretty well for me. You can get it at most drugstores/pharmacies, and it's under $2. You can usually see a difference in about 24 hours.

I was prescribed Acyclovir oral for cold sores. Plus putting alcohol on it really helps. You can use cologne or perfume or body spray, they all work!!!

Vicks Vapo rub
suggested by Suzanne on Tuesday, August 7, 2007

Following a dental appointment, I noticed a cold sore on my bottom lip the next morning. It was very painful so I put ice on it because of the swelling. Then I tried hot milk and bread to get the puss out. The next day, I used Alo Vera Gel and at night, Polysporin antibiotic cream. On Sunday evening, my neighbour at the cottage told me to use Vicks Vapo rub which I did and it seems to be working among other things. Hoping it could be another home remedy for cold sores. Thank you.

i have tried most of the home remedies posted and most of them do work but only cut my healing time by 1 or 2 days, but i have to say, the bleach and baking soda paste really works fast! i saw it posted yeaturday morning,it didnt say how often to apply it,so i applied it 3 times during the day and then right before bed(to an already starting to flare cold sore)when i woke up this morning it was just a small scab..it does sting a bit though and make sure you only get it on the exact spot and wipe it off after it dries.
