dabbing alcohol
suggested by DONNICA on Wednesday, April 18, 2007

Both my parents and I get these. my dad believes in dabbing alcohol which does work. i have also found that l-lysine 500-1000mg daily when the blister starts /occurs helps dry them out quick. i used to get them each month. i still get them if i have had too much sun. when the blister starts drying out put chapstick or some moisture type item on to keep blisters from cracking.

Peppermint Tea Bags
suggested by [unspecified] on Tuesday, April 17, 2007

I have tried tea bags, nail polish remover, ice, alcohol, etc. but nothing helped. I heard that peppermint tea bags were supposed to work also. I didn?t have peppermint tea bags available, so I used peppermint extract. It worked!!! It dried it out in a day. I also use the peppermint extract with Denavir or Abreva. I have never had anything work this quick.

RUBBING ALCOHOL
suggested by [unspecified] on Tuesday, April 10, 2007

AT THE FIRST SIGN OF A "FEVERBLISTER" WHEN YOU CAN FEEL THE HEAT I HAVE RUBBED ALCOHOL ON MY LIPS FOR THE PAST 6 YEARS AND HAVE BEEN FREE OF THESE LITTLE INCONVENIENCES. THE DAY BEFORE YESTERDAY I FELT THE HEAT AND WAS UNBALE TO WIPE MY LIPS, TODAY I HAVE A BLISTER. I BELIEVE THAT THE ALCOHOL REALLY DOES WORK..

sure-fire coldsore remedy
suggested by April on Monday, April 9, 2007

I usually get the same coldsore every winter... either right after my first cold or right before a stint of exams. I've found that using toothpaste at the first sign of it directly on top of where the blister starts to develope even prevents the sore from completely breaking out. I've found that the best one to use is one that has 'whitening' agents to it, like baking soda or peroxide, as these ingredients have drying properties to them. Then, after the blisters are dried up, and the sore begins to scab (say in 3-5 days, or however long it usually takes your blister to reach this phase), I find it very effective to apply carmex or Lip Medex by Blistex which are both external analgesics and lip protectants. It also helps the healing blister to not leave a scar.
