Minor Burns - Treatment
suggested by Liz on Tuesday, February 19, 2008

NEVER apply toothpaste to the burn. All it does is temporarily relieve the pain but in the long run, causes even worse scarring later on (traps heat, allowing burn to progress deeper) DO NOT use ice - it causes hypothermia to the burnt area Once burnt immediately run burnt area under cold water for few minutes to help prevent burn from progressing. Allow few minutes break before running under cold water again. Constantly apply moisturizer to keep burnt area well-hydrated. If blisters form, DO NOT pop them. Cover with absorbent non-stick pads (eg. MELOLIN) which allow burnt area to 'breathe'. This'll help cushion & protect the burnt area thus allowing it to properly heal. Blisters will subside/pop by themselves, so DO NOT TOUCH THEM! Crusts of dead skin will form over the layer of new skin. Again, DO NOT PEEL THEM or you could risk damaging the new skin underneath. The dead skin acts as a natural "protector" for the new skin below. PS: Don't forget to moisturize!!

Mustard or Vinegar
suggested by [unspecified] on Saturday, January 19, 2008

Apply Mustard or vinegar to the burn, it immediately takes the heat away from the area and prevents you from blistering. I burned my whole hand one time and applied mustard, there was one area on my hand I missed and it got badly blistered and left me a noticeable scar..

Clear nail polish
suggested by Surena on Wednesday, August 1, 2007

My mom was a baker and whenever she got burned (no open wound present) they would cool it down with water, dry it, than apply a thick coat of clear nail polish (top coats don't work and actually any colored nail enamel polish would work,it's just that clear isn't as noticeable), it must be enamel polish. Once it dried, it sealed the burn and the pain was no more(its the air that makes it hurts)which in turn kept it from getting infected. Allow the polish to peel off itself, if it peels off before it's healed, reapply another coat. By sealing it with the nail polish, rarely was there ever any scaring, depending on the extent of the burn. When I was younger I burned my leg on the exhaust pipe on a moped, my mom applied clear nail polish and it healed and never scarred and it was a pretty large & blistering burn.

Simple Burns
suggested by Kip on Saturday, July 7, 2007

If you happen to burn yourself i.e: coffee pot or iron, lighter ect., immediately rub the area through your hair. This will immediately take the pain away and will cause the area NOT to blister. Amazing and I have used this method MANY times. Try it.

Bleach!
suggested by mj on Monday, June 25, 2007

The theory is fire needs oxygen to burn. Bleach eats the oxygen. Without oxygen the burn is extinguished healing itself from the inside out. There should be no scaring & the stinging stops. You needs to keep the wounded area covered completely, for several minutes. Sounds crazy but it is true.

heat to kill the heat
suggested by dr geeta on Tuesday, June 12, 2007

You will be surprised but try it forst before taking it to be wrong ..The first thing to be done is to apply a distant heat to the aprt for example if you have touched a hot iron just keep ur hand near teh ron to get the heat coming from it as same kind of forces neutralise each other ,or if u touche da frying pan just take the heat from the steam of food being cooked (for 1-2 minutes at intervals of few seconds) and see after few minutes u wont be able to make out if u were even burnt ..try before discarding...it works its a old cooks remedy..
