Prognosis of Ovarian Cancer

The prognosis of ovarian cancer patients depends upon the stage at which the cancer is detected. Early detection means an increased chance of survival. Ovarian cancer however, is rarely diagnosed in the early stages and is usually quite advanced by the time symptoms appear and a diagnosis is made.

Studies show that:

  • Nearly 3 out of 4 women with ovarian cancer survive for 1 year after a diagnosis is made
  • Nearly half live up to five years or more after diagnosis
  • If the diagnosis is made before the cancer can spread outside the ovary, then the survival rate is very high
