Prognosis of Leprosy



The prognosis of leprosy or the complications associated with the affliction are listed as under:

  • Ulcers on skin and susceptibility of skin to other infections attributed to feeble immune system and open skin at various places.
  • Eye damage and cataracts, attributed to the infection of the frontal part of the eye, by the causal organism. In case the affliction is severe, it may lead to permanent blindness.
  • Necrosis of skin nodules and painful neuritis
  • Amyloidosis - This is a type of metabolic disorder in which a group of protein namely amyloid accumulates in the body, leading to adverse effect and may be fatal for the patient.
