Prevention from Leprosy

  • The best way to prevent leprosy is to avoid coming in contact with the afflicted individuals. Medical research on leprosy suggests that 95% of the cases are attributed to exposure of respiratory droplets form the patients of leprosy, causing disease transmittance. Generally, people in the same family are susceptible to the disease, as they tend to be in contact, transmitting the affliction.
  • There is no vaccination for leprosy specifically. However, the BCG vaccination may partially help prevent the disease.
  • Another remedy is to avoid handling certain carrier animals like armadillos, monkeys and chimpanzees.
