How do you relieve constant vaginal dryness by using home treatments?

Vaginal dryness is a common problem faced by many women mostly after menopause. However women of all age groups have experienced vaginal dryness at some point of time or the other. The condition could arise in women during pregnancy, in women who are nursing and also those who are on hormone replacement therapy. The other external factors that may result in vaginal dryness are chemotherapy, stress, excessive use of tampons, intercourse and even the intake of certain medications. The common symptoms of vaginal dryness are lack of lubrication during intercourse making it painful, frequent urination and a persistent pressured feeling, itching or burning in the vagina. Another common cause of vaginal dryness is the gradual decline in the estrogen level which leads to the drying and thinning of the walls of the vagina. Lower muscle tone translates into more time required for sexual arousal and is common during perimenopause. The natural treatment for constant vaginal dryness includes increase in the consumption of clean drinking water to keep the body hydrated and to flush out harmful toxins from the body. Similarly, there should be a check on the chemicals present in laundry, bathing and personal products as some chemicals are known to irritate the mucosal tissues of the vagina which are very delicate. Foods that are rich in good cholesterol such as flax seeds and soy should be incorporated in the daily diet to arrest vaginal dryness as they aid in the production of estrogen. Another homemade treatment for vaginal dryness is boiling a teaspoon of fenugreek seeds in a glass of water for 10 to 15 minutes and drinking this liquid. This maintains the blood sugar and keeps the body healthy overall. Similarly, oat straw is known to control stress and anxiety levels which are known to cause vaginal dryness. Daily consumption of a cup of oat straw is known to give the skin a healthy glow and also nurture the female reproductive system.

Aloe vera is another multipurpose herb that is known for its ability to keep the female reproductive organs healthy and also provide much needed moisturizing. Aloe vera if consumed with saffron, winter cherry and milk at night is known to increase vaginal lubrication. Some women find that using a cotton pad dipped in sesame oil to massage the vaginal walls daily is helpful in restoring vaginal lubrication. Including yogurt, rice, barley and corn in everyday meals is also known to reduce vaginal dryness.

This is most likely an estrogen deficiency problem. Get a well-woman check up with your primary care doctor or visit a naturopathic doctor who specializes in woman's health. A topical hormone cream or bioidentical hormones(orally or topically) could be used, but a physical exam, PAP smear, and labs may need to be ordered first.Good luck.
