How to relieve ear congestion?

Dealing with congestions can be very irritating. When one deals with throat and ear congestions singularly, it can get very frustrating. Dealing with both at the same time can make one very miserable. Such a condition could make hearing difficult or sometimes even impossible. One might experience difficulty in breathing and a lot more difficulty while sleeping. Even the food one eats might taste bland. The congestion of the ears can be caused by an underlying bacterial infection of the ear canal. nasal congestion can be just mucus running down at the back of the throat. Some home remedies might help in removing the congestions.

Heat can be helpful in removing ear congestions. Apply a hot bottle of water on the congested ear. One can also use a clean towel soaked in hot water or else a heating pad. Do not heat the water too much. The temperature should be comfortably warm. Also while having a bath, heat the water till it is comfortably warm and then submerge the ear in the water. Heat will help remove the congestion by increasing the blood flow towards the ear. If the congestion is caused by wax, heat can help it loosen and free the congestion. Also the increased blood flow can help in promoting the infection fighting white blood cells. The partial or total blockage of the Eustachian tube can cause ear congestion. One can also try opening and closing the mouth widely. Other actions such as swallowing, yawning can also help remove the congestion. These actions can cause the muscles of the Eustachian tubes to contract, which can help relieve the congestion.

To ease and remove nasal congestion, one can try using a bulb syringe. Make a mixture of 1 teaspoon of salt with 2 cups of warm water. Fill the bulb syringe with this mixture. Lean over a sink, insert the syringe in the nostril and gently squirt the mixture up the nostril. Depending on comfort and the congestion, decide the amount of pressure you want to apply while squirting the mixture. Heat can also help relieve nasal congestion. Drink warm water and hot beverages such as Tea, coffee or chicken broth and soups. Inhaling steam can also help relieve congestion. If possible try adding aroma oil or vaporizer in the water while inhaling steam. Strong aromas such as that of onions, which can cause watering of the nose, could also help get rid of nasal congestion.
