Chronic Loose Bowel: I have had movements for the past week at least 4 per day. How can I cure this at home?

Loose bowel movements are also referred to as diarrhea. It is the exact opposite of constipation. As you have experienced, diarrhea causes a person to pass watery stools repeatedly. It is a very uncomfortable gastrointestinal condition and is caused by viral infections, bacteria and parasites or as a side-effect from consuming certain medicines. In most cases treating the underlying condition will help in getting rid of loose motions as well. However, in the absence of any major underlying condition you can treat diarrhea with the help of simple ingredients found in your kitchen.

  • One of the most effective remedies when it comes to treating diarrhea is butter milk. Butter milk is made by churning yogurt thoroughly and removing all the fat content from it. Once the fat has been taken out, the thin residual liquid is what we refer to as buttermilk. You may add a pinch of salt to this liquid and drink it. Butter milk contains healthy bacteria that help in normalizing the digestive tract's healthy bacterial level. Salt helps in boosting the body's water retaining capacity.
  • Another effective remedy when it comes to treating diarrhea is carrot soup. While experiencing loose bowel movements the body loses most of its essential vitamins and minerals, as these are flushed out off the body along with the stools. Carrots are a good source of vitamin A, C, K and E, niacin, foliate and pantothenic acid. Minerals like potassium, sodium, phosphorus, calcium and iron can also be found in carrots. These help in strengthening the immune system as well as getting rid of bacteria or parasites causing diarrhea. You can boil around 250 to 300 grams of grated carrot is 45 ml of water. Add 2 teaspoons of salt to this soup and consume it slowly. Make sure you sip one spoon at a time in small quantities, as drinking it all at once may cause your body to expel it out.
  • You can also stimulate your digestive tract by consuming ginger. Ginger has effective anti bacterial properties and helps in building the immune system. It also helps in eliminating the bacteria causing the diarrhea.
  • Pomegranate is also useful when it comes to treating diarrhea. Pomegranate possesses effective astringent properties that help in controlling loose motions. You can eat a pomegranate or drink its juice for effective results.
  • Turmeric is also very effective when it comes to treating diarrhea. Turmeric possesses effective anti bacterial properties and also soothes the stomach lining. You can mix turmeric with butter milk or carrot juice for effective results. Additionally, you may also make a tonic by mixing half a teaspoon of turmeric with one teaspoon of honey for effective results.
