Milk is not good for gastritis and will often times worsen symtoms. Milk has also been linked to H PYLORI bacteria. It seems to promote this and in itself is a direct cause for gastritis.

Good old fasioned water (about 4 ounces) and a half teaspoon of baking soda is good safe relief and can be repeated every hour if needed.

If you experience hyperacidity due to gastritis (which is seen in atrophic gastritis, not in follicular gastritis), drink a glass of cold milk to instantly relieve the symptoms of acidity and heartburn. It is believed that milk fat is responsible for that effect.

Please note that it is important to eat something within a few minutes of drinking milk because milk can promote further acid secretion if there is no food in the stomach. Hence, make sure you eat something within minutes of drinking milk.
