From your question, it is somewhat difficult to ascertain what could be the cause of your itchy lips, or to provide a remedy. Itchy lips can be due to various reasons – allergy, a skin condition known as cheilitis, vitamin deficiency, or some other underlying disease. Without a proper and detailed description of your symptoms it is not possible to ascertain which of these and other possibilities could be at work in your case.
Subsequently, suggesting any particular remedy is also not possible.
However, here are some possible steps that you may take to deal with your itchy lips. It is more than likely that your itchy lips are due to some kind of allergy.
It may be some kind of food allergy, drug allergy, or an allergy to certain chemicals (from cosmetics or air pollution). You will need to carefully study your symptoms and find out what exactly is inducing the allergy. If it is certain food or drink that causes the allergy, you will need to avoid them altogether. If the allergy is caused by certain drugs, you will need to visit your doctor and consult with him or her. This is very important – do not discontinue or change your medication without taking your doctor’s advice.
Sometimes, certain chemicals present in the cosmetics you use may also trigger allergy. If that is the case, you will need to change your cosmetics and find alternatives that suit your skin. Pollution and external weather conditions may occasionally cause allergic reactions. In such cases, try and protect your skin by covering yourself appropriately. Also, wash your face with cold water every time you come in from outside, so that the irritants are removed from your skin.
You should also maintain proper hygiene, eat a nutritious diet, and follow a healthy lifestyle. Keep your lips clean and properly moisturized at all times. Apply petroleum jelly, or some other suitable lip balm to keep the moisture of your lips intact. You can also apply tea tree oil on your lips in small quantities, but note that it is too harsh for many skin types. As far as diet is concerned, eat plenty of vegetables and fruits, and drink a sufficient amount of water to keep yourself hydrated. However, as mentioned earlier, keep an eye out for foods that you may be allergic to. Also, avoid smoking altogether because it causes your lips to dry up. Do some moderate exercise daily and cut down on stress levels. If your itching persists, you should consult a dermatologist for a proper medical examination and accurate diagnosis for your itchy lips.
