How can I get rid of a swollen lip quickly?

You have not mentioned the cause of your swollen lip. Is it due to an injury or an infection? If your lips are chapped and it is an infection with pus, or blisters then you would need medical attention. Please visit your doctor for a check up as neglecting it could make the problem worse. Lips could also swell up because of an allergic reaction to certain foods or medicines. You need to find out the cause of your swollen lip and then treat it accordingly. Your lips could also swell up if you have a habit of constantly chewing on them or if your teeth are not aligned properly and constantly rub against them. If it is due to chewing your lips constantly then you need to top that immediately to get rid of the swollen lip. But if it is because of the misalignment then you would need to visit a dentist who would help to align your teeth. If your lip is swollen due to an injury then you could apply ice on it. Just take a few ice cubes in a plastic bag or a clean handkerchief and apply on the swollen lip as this will help to bring down the swelling.

If you do not want to use the ice then you could also use a cold spoon. Keep a large spoon in the freezer for about 15 minutes. Apply pure petroleum jelly on your lips and hold the spoon on the swollen lip for 2 to 3 minutes. Keep repeating this until the spoon is back to normal temperature. You could also use a pack of frozen peas or other vegetables. Just make sure that the bag is clean before applying it on your lips. Also make sure that your lips are not wet while applying the cold spoon or frozen pack of vegetables as it might stick to it. Use pure petroleum jelly to avoid this.

A deficiency of Vitamin B2 could also cause inflamed lips with cracks, swelling and scaling. Lip herpes could also cause the lips to swell, crack and bleed and this could be very painful. It needs immediate medical attention and treatment.

If the swelling has been for a long duration of more than two weeks then you could consider getting it removed by surgery or radiation treatment.

If your lip has swollen because of an allergic reaction to certain cosmetics and or lipsticks then stop using them immediately. Discard any make up that is more than a year old or looks dried up.
