The condition you have described is medically known as hematuria. Hematuria means the presence of red blood cells in urine, and thereby causing discoloration of urine. While microscopic hematuria (traces of blood in urine) may go unnoticed, macroscopic hematuria (visible amount of blood in urine) can cause alarm. Hematuria may indicate problems of any of the organs that constitute the entire urinary tract, which may be kidney, ureter, bladder, prostate, or urethra. There can be multiple causes for getting blood in urine - urinary tract infection, bladder or kidney stone, enlarged prostate, kidney diseases, cancer, inherited disorders, kidney injury, medications, or even strenuous exercise. While some of the causes of hematuria are easily treatable and are of non-serious type, some others are much more risky and may need immediate medical attention. Most cases of hematuria are found benign and do not pose any health risk, however hematuria might also indicate some other underlying ailment in the body. It is, therefore, advisable to consult a medical practitioner to determine the exact cause of blood in urine.
There are not many home remedies for treating hematuria. There are only some dietary recommendations for dealing with hematuria. Bitter gourd is recommended heavily in daily diet. So are drumsticks and green bananas. White pumpkin mixed with sugarcane juice is also considered helpful for a faster recovery. Pomegranate juice is another helpful addition to the diet. Moderate amount of meat soup can be included in the diet as well.
If the blood in urine is due to a bladder infection, you can also try the following dietary practices. Drink cranberry juice to deal with the infection. Drink a cup of radish leaf juice daily for two weeks. Spinach juice mixed with coconut water is a safe diuretic and is helpful for treating bladder infection. A lemon juice concoction can also be tried. Add a teaspoon of lemon juice to a cupful of boiling water and sip this mixture when cooled. Drink this concoction the whole day after every two hours.
If you wish to go for homeopathic treatment, terebinthina, a homeopathic drug, is considered helpful for treating hematuria and other renal problems.
Some other steps need to be taken alongside for dealing with hematuria. Drink plenty of fluids and take rest if you suffer from hematuria. Do not hold back when you feel like urinating; it puts pressure on your bladder. Stop smoking and drinking alcohol when you are identified with hematuria. Also avoid hot and spicy food as they may further aggravate the condition. Desist from sexual activities during the course of treatment.
