I am 23 years old. I got several brown spots on my face and its been increasing over the years. Kindly suggest the appropriate solution to overcome it.

Brown spots on any part of the skin can be due to a variety of problems, but usually, if you take adequate care of your skin it is possible to get rid of them. It does take time however — if the spots are due to some sort of hyper pigmentation, it could take a very long time for the pigmentation to return to normal, and if the spots are scars then it takes even longer, up to several years.

You have not mentioned whether you have any other skin problems such as acne. Acne pimples often leave behind scars that appear as brown spots, and this scarring is due to infection or bursting pimples forcefully. Acne is quite common and severe during adolescence, but by your age it would usually have disappeared. Still, even the occasional pimple can leave a scar if it gets infected or if you have the habit of meddling with it as many people do. Alternatively, the brown spots on your face could be blemishes caused by excessive sun exposure or some other kind of damage.

In either case, some basic measures are necessary to care for your skin. You should wash it regularly, but avoid using soap more than a couple of times a day, unless it’s really necessary. When you do use soap, make sure that it is a mild one that does not dry out the skin. In addition, you may need to use a moisturizing lotion, depending on your skin type. A good skin toner is also advisable. Some home remedies can also help your skin to glow and clear up any blemishes. One is a mixture of milk, turmeric powder, and sandalwood powder, which you should apply gently, leave on for fifteen minutes and then rinse off. Rinsing your face with a little rose water is also great, as is a daily application of aloe gel.
