Advice on Heart & Cardiology

Cardiac arrhythmias, such as missed heartbeats, can be caused by stress, stimulants, and depressants, and are sometimes an indication of a serious heart condition. When you say "heart problem", are you referring to the missed beats themselves or does your father have an existing heart condition that has been diagnosed by his doctor? Most people have occasional skipped heart beats, which are normal and nothing to worry about.

Sometimes a heart beat occurs early, but this is perceived as a skipped beat, while at other times a beat is actually skipped.

Based on the information in your question, it is not possible to provide a clear diagnosis or recommend any treatment. If your father regularly experiences skipped heart beats, he should get a professional diagnosis, particularly if other symptoms exist, such as dizziness, shortness of breath, or chest pain.

Your doctor will investigate your father’s medical history and perform a few tests to determine whether a heart condition exists. Depending on the seriousness of the condition, the doctor may advise some basic measures such as avoiding stress and cutting down on caffeine, nicotine, and alcohol, if your father uses any of them. If the arrhythmia is more severe, treatment with drugs and/or a pacemaker may be required.
