In a young child, chronic ear infections may result from both structural as well as physiological causes, because of the size and shape of the Eustachian tube. A common cause of ear infections in both children and adults is food sensitivity. Avoidance of dairy and wheat for 4-6 weeks is often a good place to start. A weakened immune system may also play a part in chronic ear infections. Probiotics will help strengthen the immune system --as will castor oil packs and hydrotherapy. Ear pain may be palliated with garlic/mullein ear drops and onion/potato poultices. Please consult a health care practitioner for further assessment and treatment.
