Children's ear infections are usually brought on by a cold, so it is a good idea to keep the child away from situations where it can catch a cold. For a child so small, you are right in wanting to avoid antibiotics. Apply warm heat packs or a warm washcloth on the outside and down the side of the neck of the infected ear.


This will provide relief from pain. Try to feed the baby more frequently so that the suckling motion she makes can keep her ear muscles supple and strong.

You can prepare a mixture of one part fresh garlic juice and four parts of rose water and put a drop in the ear of the child.


Leave it in for a minute and then drain the liquid. Garlic juice is an antiseptic as well as an antibiotic, but it is hot in nature and may burn the baby. Rose water will cool down this property of garlic and the combination will effectively kill a mild infection. If the child cries too much, you can try the combination of lime juice and rosewater instead. Tea tree oil is considered very useful in helping to clear out all infections, but you must not use it directly on such a small child. Put a few drops on a handkerchief and place this handkerchief close to the ear of the child. Make certain it is not touching the baby directly. This will also help to ease the pain.
