Home remedies for sore throat & chest burning sensation

From the sound of it, you may be suffering from heartburn, which is a condition that is characterized by pain and a burning sensation in the chest and throat. This especially happens after eating a large meal. Spicy foods are also likely to cause this condition. Excessive alcohol consumption is also a cause for heartburn. Heartburn is quite a common condition and most individuals experience it at some point. This condition occurs when the acid that is produced in the stomach travels back up the esophagus. The food we eat reaches the stomach through the esophagus. If heartburn occurs too often, it could also cause the esophagus lining to erode. It could also be indicative of another condition called gastroesophageal reflux disease or GERD. This condition develops when the esophagus muscles are not able to close tightly enough, thereby allowing the stomach acid to travel back up the esophagus. It is important to treat heartburn quickly in order to prevent further aggravation.

Heartburn generally occurs when the body is in the supine or lying down position as this makes it easier for the stomach acid to travel back upwards. Activities that increase pressure on the stomach such as coughing or straining can also cause the acid to back up into the esophagus. Certain medications are also known to cause heartburn. The burning sensation associated with heartburn may be felt in the chest and could also extend up to the throat and jaws. These symptoms tend to occur about half an hour to one hour after taking meals. There may also be a sensation of a sour or bitter taste in the mouth.

There are several home remedies that help to relieve the symptoms of heartburn. You can have chamomile tea after your meals in order to minimize the irritation of the esophagus. Green teas are also believed to aid in the process of digestion and hence are helpful in preventing heartburn. Drinking aloe vera juice after your meals is also effective in treating heartburn. For mild heartburn, a glass of warm water may be consumed immediately on experiencing the symptoms. Increasing the intake of fiber in your daily diet is effective in preventing heartburn. Bulk foods that are rich in fiber absorb the extra acids and gas. You can also mix half a teaspoon of baking soda with water and drink. This is known to be quite quick and effective in alleviating heartburn. Another beneficial remedy for heartburn is to boil some ginger root in water and consume it immediately.
