Yes 2 tsp honey when added in warm water can help to soothe your throat. For more effectiveness you can add a tsp of fresh ginger juice to this water. Besides this remedy try the following simple home remedies to soothe your throat –
- Warm water gargles with added salt works best for sore throat when done 3 times a day.
Do them especially at night before going to bed. - Turmeric has antibiotic properties and helps to deal with cough. Add ½ tsp turmeric powder and a pinch of salt in a cup of boiling milk.
Drink this twice daily every morning and night. - Steam taken from boiling water would also help to cure cough and congestion caused due to it (put a thick towel over your head while taking steam for more effectiveness).
- An herbal tea would also help. Add fresh grated ginger, holy basil leaves, pepper and honey in boiling water. Drink just an ounce of this tea to soothe your throat.
- Avoid cold water/cold foods, spicy, sour, oily/fried foods, carbonated drinks, alcohol or cigarette as they further tend to irritate the throat.
